New Voices: Mount Notre Dame and Jewish Family Service, Winter, 2014

Posted on February 06, 2014

Mount Notre Dame students worked one on one with members of the Holocaust Survivors Group facilitated by Jewish Family Service.

This winter, students from Mount Notre Dame worked work with Holocaust survivors and children of survivors who are members of the Holocaust Survivor’s Group facilitated by Jewish Family Service. Students photographed survivors and their children as they prepared traditional family recipes, passed down from generation to generation. These cooking and photography sessions served as windows to the incredible stories of survival, perseverance and ultimately, emigration to America. Students learned not only delicious family recipes, but also a new understanding of this traumatic episode in history.

The Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education was kind enough to allow one participating student, Taylor Speed, to address the audience at the annual Yom Hashoah event it produces at the Mayerson Jewish Community Center.
