Prairie to Participate in 2018 Fotofocus Biennial

Posted January 02 2018

Prairie to present New American Stories, images by recently resettled refugees, as a participant in the 2018 Fotofocus Biennial Festival of Photography in Cincinnati. Opening reception October 13, 6-8 pm. Exhibition continues through November 30. Free admission. Tuesdays through Fridays 12-6. Saturday 10-2. Closed Thanksgiving Day

To complement the “open archive” theme of the upcoming 2018 Fotofocus Biennial Festival of Photography in October, Prairie worked with recently resettled refugees to create an exhibit of photographs which will show in its Northside gallery space. Refugees who have recently resettled in Cincinnati from around the globe, through the efforts of Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio, learned the basics of point and shoot photography and about Western traditions of creating and compiling family photo albums. Each participant created their own small body of work, created their own family photo album and selected one or two of their images to show in Prairie’s Fotofocus exhibit, New American Stories. The exhibit will also contain short narratives and reflections from each participant on immigrating to the US and the role Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio played in their lives.
