The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center will show work from New Voices students from SCPA and residents of Joseph House during the 2014 Fotofocus festival in October, 2014. Opening September 20 through December 13.

Prairie’s high school program New Voices is proud to have been chosen to present work from its project with Milford High School and City Gospel Mission from the Fall, 2012. The presentation will be made at “Monumental”, a national service-learning conference produced by the National Youth Leadership Council. The conference will take place in April, 2014 in Washington, DC.

In addition to the opening reception on October 12, Johnson will discuss his work and ideas about naturalism and Alfred Russel Wallace on November 9 at 7:00 pm in commemoration of the 100 year anniversary of Wallace’s death. Participants will observe and interact with animal specimens at various stages of processing. Demonstrations including insect mounting, taxidermy, and skeletal articulation will be provided as way to reconsider the philosophy and science of nature.

Prairie worked with the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition, City Gospel Mission and the Mayerson Service Learning program this past summer to produce the 2014 Day by Day Calendar. The calendar contains creative work by those struggling with homelessness and goes on sale in early November. It is available from select Streetvibes Distributors. Voting for the best ideas submitted in the Greater Cincinnati Foundations’s Big Idea Challenge is underway through September 27. Several organizations served through Prairie’s programming stand to benefit from some of the excellent ideas submitted including an idea to subsidize the cost of becoming a certified personal trainer for residents of agencies such as City Gospel Mission, Joseph House or Anna Louise Inn. This would allow residents in dependency situations to become self sufficient and create healthy lifestyles for themselves and others at the same time. Voting can be done by visiting their web site.
